In 1995, Donnie hosted the Holbrook Summer Classic at Brainerd Optimist Dragstrip in Chattanooga.  It was his desire to give back to the place where he began racing.  At the time of the event, it was the largest payout for a race at Brianerd.  

After turning professional in 1985, Donnie always returned to Brainerd to test and tune his race cars.  He was the first Top Fuel Dragster to ever run the 1/8 mile at Brainerd.

At the Holbrook Summer Classic, Donnie brought in legendary drag racer John Cary to race his own team (Holbrook Performance) for the first ever Top Fuel race at Brainerd.  Also, he brought in two nitro funny cars to race that night.
